ANNUAL BOWLING EVENTS:
The Reading Trophy Mixed Fours Tournament is the oldest and most prestigious mixed fours tournament in Gauteng. It was instituted by the Late Bubi Silberman and the Late Abe Stein in 1957. Entrants are guaranteed good bowls on superb greens, great prizes, excellent catering and bar facilities, and generally, a wonderful event.

The Rae Friedman Off Season League.
This prestigious tournament has been held annually for the past 42 years. It is well attended by approximately 96 lady bowlers from various clubs in and around Johannesburg and the East Rand who thrive on strong, competitive bowls and enjoy the opportunity of renewing old acquaintances and meeting new ones. |
The tournament is played on Tuesday and Thursday mornings over a period of three weeks.
This event has been co-ordinated and run for over 20 years by Rae Friedman, an Honorary Life Member of Reading Country Club. Rae, a highly respected and much loved member, handed over the reins last year. In honour of her dedication and hard work, the tournament was renamed to The Rae Friedman Off Season League.

The main purpose of these annual tournaments is to promote the sport of bowls, a game played by both young and old competitors, as well as to support various local charities, such as United Cerebral Palsy Association of South Africa, Hospice East Rand, and Our Children's Fund. The tournaments start and end with a “spider” before commencement of play, and all monies collected are paid over to the National Association for Blind Bowlers.
